Personal photography or image editing sessions with Kam or James, built entirely around what you want to learn.
Small groups of up to ten, a real creative challenge and plenty of time behind the camera. You don’t need to be a club member to book.
Editing workshop. Take control of your editing and get more from your photography, from the foundations of Lightroom to advanced techniques.
Take control of your editing and get more from your photography. This practical workshop takes you from the foundations of Lightroom through to advanced editing techniques, helping you develop a faster, more confident and consistent workflow.
Whether you're completely new to Lightroom or already use it but feel you're only scratching the surface, this workshop will help you get far more from your photography and your editing.
We'll take you through Lightroom from the ground up, starting with how to organise and manage your photographs effectively before moving on to the tools and techniques that can transform a good photograph into a great one.
The emphasis throughout the day will be on practical, real editing rather than simply working through every tool Lightroom has to offer. You'll learn how to recognise what an image needs, how to make effective adjustments and importantly, when to stop.
We'll also look at more advanced techniques and workflows that can help you edit more confidently and efficiently.
By the end of the day, you should have a much better understanding of Lightroom and a workflow you can continue using and developing with your own photography.
Beginners through to existing Lightroom users who want to improve their workflow and editing skills.
A laptop with Adobe Lightroom Classic installed, along with a selection of your own photographs to work on.
Disposable Camera Street Photography. Shoot on a disposable film camera. No screen. No deleting. No second chances. Build confidence on the street.
No screen. No deleting. No second chances. Build confidence.
When was the last time you took a photograph and genuinely had no idea whether you'd got it?
No checking the back of the camera. No firing ten frames and choosing the best one later. No changing ISO. No swapping lenses. No histogram. No autofocus settings to worry about.
Just you, a simple disposable film camera and a limited number of photographs.
Welcome to No Second Chances.
This four-hour creative street photography workshop strips photography right back to its simplest form and asks you to rely on the most important piece of photographic equipment you own; your eye.
Everyone starts with the same type of disposable camera and the same limitations, regardless of whether you normally photograph with a phone, an entry-level camera or thousands of pounds' worth of professional equipment.
Slow down. Look harder. Commit to the photograph.
Digital photography has given us incredible freedom, but it's also made it very easy to take photographs without really thinking about them.
During this workshop we're taking that safety net away.
The session is designed to make you look more closely at what's happening around you. Interesting light. Human moments. Colour. Gesture. Humour. Juxtaposition. Details other people walk straight past.
But there's a catch.
You have a limited number of exposures and once you've pressed the shutter, that photograph is gone. You won't know whether it worked until the film is developed.
You'll have to decide:
Is this moment worth one of my frames?
That's where things get interesting.
During the session we'll work on:
There'll be several mini challenges throughout the workshop, opportunities to regroup and compare experiences.
Because nobody can see their photographs, we're not going to spend the day staring at the backs of cameras. We'll actually talk about photography.
The workshop doesn't completely end at 2pm. Your films will be developed and digitised afterwards, ready for a reveal and review.
Before handing your camera in, you'll choose the frame you think will be your best photograph. Were you right? Maybe. Maybe not. That's part of the fun.
Seeing the photographs for the first time is part of the experience; including the unexpected successes, missed moments, strange exposures and happy accidents that make shooting film so addictive.
This workshop is suitable for all levels looking for a completely different creative challenge. You don't need any knowledge of film photography. You don't even bring your normal camera.
Come prepared to slow down, trust yourself and rediscover the excitement of not knowing whether you've got the shot.
27-ish frames. Four hours. No second chances.
We'll provide the camera. You provide the eye.
With Steve Jolliffe & Mark Densum. Take the mystery out of studio flash and discover just how creative you can be with light.
Want to feel more confident using studio lighting, understand what all those lights and modifiers actually do, or simply have the opportunity to experiment with different lighting setups?
Join Steve Jolliffe and Mark Densum for a full-day, practical studio lighting workshop designed to take some of the mystery out of working with studio flash.
Whether you've never used studio lights before or already have some experience and want to develop your skills, this will be a relaxed, hands-on day with plenty of opportunities to experiment, ask questions and, most importantly, take photographs.
Studio lighting can seem complicated when you first encounter it.
Where should the light go? How powerful should it be? What's the difference between a softbox, reflector or umbrella? Why use more than one light? And how do you actually connect your camera to the flash in the first place?
Steve and Mark will take you through the fundamentals of working with studio flash, explaining the equipment, how it works and how to take control of your lighting rather than relying on trial and error.
We'll look at how the position, direction, distance and quality of light affect your subject and how relatively small changes can dramatically alter the look and mood of a photograph.
You don't need a studio full of equipment to create interesting portraits. We'll start simply, exploring what can be achieved with a single light and learning how moving that light changes the photograph.
From soft, flattering illumination to much more dramatic directional light, you'll see how the same subject can be photographed in completely different ways simply by changing the lighting.
From there, we'll introduce different modifiers, reflectors and additional lights, giving you the opportunity to see what each brings to the photograph.
Throughout the day we'll create a variety of studio lighting scenarios for you to photograph and experiment with. We'll explore techniques such as:
Rather than simply showing you a finished setup and telling you where the lights go, we'll encourage you to look at why a particular arrangement works and what happens when you change it.
Move a light. Change a modifier. Alter the power. Take another photograph. Compare the results. That's where studio lighting starts to make sense.
This isn't a six-hour demonstration where you watch someone else take photographs. You'll be shooting.
The day will combine demonstrations from Steve and Mark with plenty of practical photography, giving everyone the chance to work with the different lighting setups and see the results through their own camera.
There'll also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions throughout the day, so if there's something about studio lighting you've never quite understood, this is the perfect opportunity to find out.
The workshop is suitable for photographers with a basic familiarity with their camera, from those using studio flash for the first time through to photographers who have experimented with lighting before and want to develop their understanding.
You don't need to own studio lighting equipment. You don't need previous studio experience. Just bring your camera, a suitable lens and plenty of memory-card space. Full details of any other equipment required will be provided before the workshop.
By the end of the day, our aim is for you to leave with a much clearer understanding of how studio lighting works, how to control it and, most importantly, the confidence to experiment with it yourself.
