Any digital camera will do, from a mobile phone or a point and shoot right through to an expensive DSLR or mirrorless body. You will need to bring your own camera. Phones are genuinely welcome, though there are some things they cannot do that we will point out as we go.

Bring a notepad and pen, something to drink, and weather appropriate clothing for the outdoor sessions.

Yes. The first session covers the foundations from scratch, and complete beginners usually see an improvement immediately. Nobody in the room is judging what you turned up with.

We would still start you at Level 1. Level 2 builds on it rather than revisiting it, so skipping ahead leaves gaps. Experienced photographers almost always find something in Level 1 they had never quite understood.

Course 1 is for anyone without formal photography education. Course 2 needs Level 1 or equivalent, Course 3 needs Level 2, and Course 4 follows Course 3. If you are unsure, call us and we will tell you honestly.

No, and that is deliberate. The courses draw on NCFE, A Level, BTEC and HNC content, but without formal assessment, project deadlines or extensive written work. You get the teaching without the exam machinery.

The minimum age for group classes is 16, and there is no upper limit. Under 16s can join with written consent from a parent or guardian, but please contact us first, or book one to one sessions instead.

Almost everyone thinks this. The courses are designed so you learn and enjoy at your own pace, with support tailored to where you actually are. There is no pass or fail and nothing to be marked against.

Don’t worry if you miss a session, even the first one! We understand that, as most of our students are adults, work, family, holidays and social commitments can sometimes get in the way.

Our courses are designed with this in mind. Key topics and techniques are revisited throughout the course, giving you plenty of opportunities to catch up and build your confidence. If you do miss a session, you’ll be able to catch up easily and continue with the rest of the course without feeling left behind.

We are not able to refund the course fee if you choose to leave before completion, but our support does not stop. You can still message, call or video call us with questions.

Only for the photo editing sessions, and we will help you through it. The group courses are about the camera, not the computer.

Yes, one to one and on an hourly basis, either in person or over a video call. We can also teach whatever editing software you already own.

A short amount of teaching, then you shoot, then we look at what came back and talk about why it worked or did not. Two hours, one evening a week, six weeks.
